Matias Mariani, tenor
BIOGRAPHY

Argentine-American Matias Mariani is a rising lyric tenor known for his "fiery" and "engaging" singing and stage presence. Most recently he was a finalist and recipient of the Vero Beach Opera Award at the 2013 Marcello Giordani Foundation Competition. Mr. Mariani recently performed the role of Ernesto in Donizetti's Don Pasquale with the Green Mountain Opera Festival and the roles of Arturo and Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor with Dayton Opera.

Mr. Mariani has portrayed the role of Tybalt in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Don José The Tragedy of Carmen, Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e I Montecchi, Le Prince Charmant in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Monastatos in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Bill in Menotti’s A Hand of Bridge, Parpignol in Puccini’s La Bohème, and Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi.

Mr. Mariani is equally at home singing oratorio. Mariani has been soloist for Camille Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noel, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. John Passion and Cantata 78 with the Converse College Festival Chorus, the Gainesville Civic Chorus and the Fine Arts Chorale of Weymouth, MA.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mr. Mariani grew up in South Carolina where he began his vocal studies with soprano Dr. Valerie MacPhail, voice faculty at Converse College. He also received a degree in Spanish from Wofford College, place where he continued his musical studies through music related projects and countless recitals thanks to the support of their Success Initiative program and its mentors, Dr. Akers and Dr. Proctor. After Wofford College and a year of teaching Spanish, Mariani continued his vocal studies at The Boston Conservatory with Dr. Rebecca Folsom and graduated with a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance.
